Penny for Your Thoughts - A Poll
For those of you who do not know, I am in the process of starting my freelance writing career (though it feels more like trying to start my career) and thus my website. Since my go at building my own website with my so-so knowledge of HTML has only irritated me without much progress, I am turning to you, my readers, for a bit of advice.
I found some Wordpress themes that would actually work out quite nicely. I would love your input since I am looking for something creative, professional and eye-catching. I have narrowed it down to five options:
1. Feather Pen 1.0. I like this theme because of the obvious writer’s nuance. The only modification would be that I would post my logo where “Wordpress test site” is written in the top left as if it were a business card pinned on a board.
2. Connections 1.0. The header would be fully replaced with my logo. I like this one because it is very clean.
3. Corkboard 1.0. This is one earned my husband’s vote. Again, I would post my logo as if it were a pinned business card. I like this one because it shows a bit of creativity, something different, but stays within the realm of what would be professional and familiar to a writer and editor.
4. Pray for Mercy. Nix the kitty header and replace it with my logo. I like this one because of the colors and simplicity.
5. Talian. The orange would be changed to olive green and the mountain picture replaced with my logo. I like this one because it provides a place for lots of information to be presented in a clean and professional looking layout.
Please note that “voting” will be closed and I will decide by Wednesday the 18th at 8 pm PDT. Thank you for your input!!!

Feather Pen. Artistic but not too casual.

this is hard, I like some, but none in its entirety. I like the uniqueness of the corkboard, but I don’t like the scrap of paper in the upper left. I also like Pray for Mercy, given the changes you said. The colors are calming and very professional. So with all that said I go for “Pray for Mercy” with the revamp.

I vote for Talian.
It’s professional, young, and fun.
I like corkboard, but it’s a bit college-y (ie: Yale has something like that for the college announcements…)
Feather Pen comes in second, very cute and professional.

I have to lean towards talian. It gives the most flexibility and possibility for customization. Also, It’ll look good with the new logo.

When I first got on WP I was using the Connections theme. It’s not bad at first, but then the green really got on my nerves. It can look really nice, though… this is Dead Robots page: http://www.deadrobot.com/
After a few months I discovered “Cutline”… if you have a choice out of all the themes available, I’d go with Cutline, but otherwise Talian 1.0 is the best of the pack you’re looking at. The Themes like “Pray for Mercy” are meant more for graphic sites, lots of photos and videos. Corkboard and Feather Pen seem a little cheezy, I’d expect to see recipes and photos of the grandkids on them.
So…
1) Cutline 3-Column Split 1.1
2) Talian

I vote Pray for Mercy… I like the layout the best. The others are ok (featherpen and connections are kind of dull though).
