So to all you kind people who want to assist and ask, after I’ve conveyed the fact that I’ve now had six weeks straight of “morning sickness”, “Have you tried crackers?”
Without ripping off your head and stuffing it up your hiney, Yes, I’ve tried crackers. No, they don’t work for me. In fact, they get regurgitated with everything else. Apparently my kid finds the up-chuck reflex amusing and nothing in particular helps. I don’t mean to be rude, but really??? Do you really think crackers could cease my 6 weeks of come-and-go nausea? Tonight Justin and I went our local Improv to see Ralphie May, who’s 1) hilarious AND intelligent and 2) whose Jewish wife just had a baby. His wife opened for him and had him bring out their 2 1/2 week old on the stage with them, a beautiful little girl they named April.
“Say good night to my two Jews. That’s right, I made that little Jew she’s carrying,” he cried out as his wife Lahna walked off with their daughter in her arms. “I’m doing the work of Jesus!”
We all crack up and I shoot a glance at Justin. “You made this little Jew too!” I whisper, rubbing my belly. With a twinkle in those gorgeous baby blues, he grinned proudly.
That says it all, folks.
It wasn’t so long ago that I was feeling very pessimistic about my marriage. A mix of financial hardship, little time together due to his new position at work and a certain stagnation in the romance department had left me feeling everything but the warm fuzzies. I felt alone, like I was failing as a wife and I couldn’t help our marriage.
Justin and I were really getting to the nitty-gritty of the bigger issues at work and really making some headway when the news that our Little One was coming came to us. Being of the logical sort, I’ve never bought into the “baby fixes everything” philosophy of marital problems, so after my initial shock and joy there was a grave concern:
