Welcome to Mentally Interesting...

This is my little self-improvement experiment. Here I discuss mental health, weight loss, debt elimination, parenthood, pop culture and generally whatever gets me thinking. Be forewarned, we go for brutal honesty here; however, I do play well with others and so should you.

Folic Acid, Crackers and I Know You Mean Well

So to all you kind people who want to assist and ask, after I’ve conveyed the fact that I’ve now had six weeks straight of “morning sickness”, “Have you tried crackers?”

Without ripping off your head and stuffing it up your hiney, Yes, I’ve tried crackers. No, they don’t work for me. In fact, they get regurgitated with everything else. Apparently my kid finds the up-chuck reflex amusing and nothing in particular helps. I don’t mean to be rude, but really??? Do you really think crackers could cease my 6 weeks of come-and-go nausea? Do I really look so dumb as to not try the tried-and-true sick foods? Crackers, soup, 7-Up, ice chips, toast, applesauce… and sometimes it helps and sometimes it just gets vomited up again.

Except pickles. Don’t ask, it doesn’t make sense to me either.

I’d seriously love to write more and in a less bitchy tone, but reading and writing (two of my favorite things!) make me more nauseous if done for more than a few minutes.

Oh how I will give this Little One crap about making me nauseous when s/he tells me I’m not fair. Talk about not fair to me?! YOU made me nauseous for weeks, kiddo! WEEKS! Imagine the flu for WEEKS!

I’m going back to my tv vigil on the couch. A nurse at my Mom’s work said it’s the drastic rise and fall of folic acid in my system that’s causing the nausea so now I’m trying half of the preggo vitamin in the morning, half in the evening and a diet rich in folic acid. I wonder if the vitamin tastes worse coming back up than it does going down - that’s hard to imagine…

I had zero morning sickness. Crackers and popcorn were the only two things during pregnancy guaranteed to make me ill.

Have you tried ginger beer, or gingerroot tea?

I’ve also heard that morning sickness is a sign that all the hormones are doing their thing-so take it as a good sign. Although I don’t envy you. And the maternity vitamins are ROTTEN on the tummy, so be careful. I always took mine with a good wollop of protein.
