The Name War
Tomorrow is my first prenatal appointment with an OBGYN and since I’m 15 weeks along, we very well may learn the sex of the baby! With this looming revelation not far off, my normally passive Husband has gone kamikaze on the naming issue.
Since I basically chose the name for the girl and had my heart set on it (he likes the name by the way), he thinks I should hand over all boy naming privileges to him. I agree with this in theory. However, his greatest concern is that “It must be a good hockey name!” This suddenly cuts off all loving trust and I turn into a vicious mother bear.
“You’re not naming my boy Ilya!”
Other names he’s offered up?
Wayne - Gretzky anyone?
Bruce - as in Wayne, as in Batman
Logan - as in Wolverwine of the X-Men
Alexei - as in Kovalev of the NHL
Gordy - as in Gordon Howe, the NHL great. Hi! I’m Latin and in Spanish “gordo” means fat, so HELL NO!
Luke - he’s a fan of a certain series we will only refer to as “Whatever is on ESPN at the time”; also the name of Robitaille of the Los Angeles Kings
Liam - Irish origins, short for William and the only one I LOVED
Everyone I’ve spoken to loves Liam and doesn’t understand why suddenly he’s pushing for Luke or Logan (which has been on the top 10 baby names for the last few years, which mean our kid would be Logan H. to the Logan S. and Logan L. that’ll be in the class, I’m sure). Everyone he’s spoken to doesn’t understand why I don’t let him choose the boy’s name since I chose the girl’s name. My problem is that I want to at least like the name my Husband crowns our possible son with, no?
So I’m curious as to what you think about all of this, my dears. Comment away, rant if you will, but I need some perspective on this!

i LOVVEEEEEEE Liam (as in Gallagher, as in Oasis
) . I really like Logan and Luke too. What about the middle name? Can you pick that since Justin is picking the first name?? Or will there be a middle name?? What is the girl’s name?
Im glad he likes the girl name btw. Always good to be mutual

Liam is good. Unusual names are good. I always enjoyed having an uncommon name. But you gotta give Justin H. a break - he has never had the pleasure. =)
P.S. I’m in between jobs right now and have lots of free time…call me if you are up to hanging out sometime in the next week or so.
