Welcome to Mentally Interesting...

This is my little self-improvement experiment. Here I discuss mental health, weight loss, debt elimination, parenthood, pop culture and generally whatever gets me thinking. Be forewarned, we go for brutal honesty here; however, I do play well with others and so should you.

Everyone Has a Bad Day Once in Awhile

I caught Husband’s cold and am blowing my nose incessantly.

I got nearly no sleep last night because I didn’t realize I had run out of Seroquel.

And the dog, for some reason, could not stand sleeping in her kennel (where she does every night) and had to be next to my side of the bed in order to sleep and stop whining.

The pressure in my head from the congestion is making me nauseous.

But I can’t take any cold meds because they don’t play well with my bipolar meds or my pregnancy.

I think this is one of those “hide under the covers and watch movies all day” kind of day.

*HONK* *cough cough* *sniffle*

Anyone feel like heating me up some chicken soup? *HONK*

Fat Tuesday Revival

Obviously, some things have changed since I first made my declaration back in February of this year.

First, an injury to my left leg in April (torn plantaris tendon, torn calf muscle and sprained hamstring) that took me both out of work and off my feet which is STILL healing. From the lack of mobility and the good food my Mom cooks, I gained another 15 lbs to put me at a whooping 220 lbs which is a lot for my medium 5′7″ frame.

The next surprise was our unplanned blessing of Miriam Rose (due April 17th for those of you not paying attention), which brought a horrid bout of “morning” sickness that made me lose those previously gained 15 lbs before beginning to put on the pregnancy weight.

I am currently 215 lbs (up 10 lbs from the “pre-pregnancy” weight of 205 after the “morning” sickness took its toll), which is on the low end of what I should gain by this time in the pregnancy.

While dieting is OBVIOUSLY not a good idea while pregnant (more…)

Money Mondays, ep 8 - 2007 Summation

Every year I like to set some financial goals and compare to how reality took place at the end of the year. To be honest, I did this in the beginning to make sure I accomplished the rather lofty goals I set for our family. Now I do it as a lesson in crisis management as well as evaluating how realistic the goal was in the first place.

Now, this year was a doozy as far as curve balls went! (more…)

An Exercise in Perspective

My Mother is slowly driving me insane.

No, not slowly. It’s more like that saying “getting nowhere fast”. Revving the engine to 8000 RPMs at a five-minute long stop light. Loud and sounding fast but going nowhere. AKA MADDENING.

She gets angry if I don’t buy the groceries she wants, yet she doesn’t want to pitch in money for groceries. She empties the dishwasher in a huff because Husband and I are too tired and are putting off. Then she puts everything away in a weird new arrangement that we’ve NEVER had the dishes in and leaves us searching for simple items. (You know it’s bad when I’m calling both Husband and Mama to find where the can opener has ended up.) She doesn’t like it when we have friends over more than once every other month (”I like the quiet”) but talks incessantly when we’re home, to the point that Husband and I now look at her and say gently “Quiet time, now”. She calls me on break at work or while I’m out and about to talk about recipes and shallots and what we need to get when we go grocery shopping again. (Again? I just went four days ago!) She doesn’t remember half of what anyone tells her and gets mad at you when you get upset because she messed up because she forgot what you told her in the first place!

A Suspicious Day Off

So Writer Chick did this meme that actually caught my attention. I found it funny and revealing and now I’m doing it too.

The Rules:

1. Write a list of things of which you are suspicious. Any number of them will do.
2. Include the list of rules, if you feel like it.
3. Link back to the person who tagged you. Or don’t.
4. Tag people you want to tag or skip this step altogether.
5. If you acted on rule four, leave comments on their websites to let them know that they have been tagged or just let them be surprised. Surprises are good.

  • #1: Anyone who won’t answer a straight question. This simultaneously drives me insane and leads me to believe you don’t want to tell me the truth willingly which makes you extremely suspicious in my book. (more…)
