Each January 1st, nearly everyone I know has created a list of things they are going to change about themselves: their weight, their debt-to-income ratio, their savings account, their job. Yet by April, those gyms are empty of their first quarter rush and those credit cards? Hello credit limit.
It was for this reason I stopped doing New Year’s Resolutions back when I was a teenager. It didn’t work. It wasn’t personal. And I HATE failing which, inevitably, I always did.
Screw breaking up, it’s changing that’s so hard to do!
But why?

My body operates under its own unique laws of physics because that is the only explanation. Because you see that weight change there, at the end, over the last 7 days? i lost 6 lbs by doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING DIFFERENT. My water weight percentage stayed the same, the fat percentage dipped ever so slightly.
i am so confused.
Also, you can track my progress HERE. However, be forewarned… the activities may include items of a, er, adult nature.
In the past few weeks of medication ickiness, i have totally fallen away from my lose the fat hurrah. And i mean fall away as in two apple pies and half gallons of ice cream with a side of Double Stuffed Oreos later kind of fall off the wagon.
i don’t even want to look at the scale. But for the sake of accountability, i’ll divulge.
Oh. My. Goodness. i’m STILL at 203.8 lbs! HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? i watch my calories and work out and i stay the same… i eat everything crappy and barely move and I STAY THE SAME?!?!?
ARGH!
This is ridiculous.
“i’m going out to dinner,” she says with a huff.
On a random note, at the weight i’m at, this is my boob twin:

That kinda makes me feel better in that vastly superficial, hedonistic kind of way.
Even the longest journey starts with a single step, right?
Then i’ve got some fabulous shoes to protect that first step and about the next 500 miles of them! (That’s usually how long running shoes are good for.)
Last night i made my way down to my local Road Runner Sports to get some advice from the experts regarding what shoe i should be wearing. Though there is little equipment in running, that shoe is the most vital bit you have. Being that i apparently pronate with my right foot, which means that it rolls inward or outward and not in the proper straight or neutral line. After many surprisingly high-tech testing, the nice salespeople and i agreed on this:

These pretty babies are the New Balance 1222’s. They are ridiculously comfy and i can’t wait to get out on the run tomorrow with Zoë! How i ever kept running in my 2 year old Nikes i do not know.
Tomorrow, the plan is to do a run/walk of 3 minutes to 2 minutes (run 3, walk 2, repeat 6x). It’s based on a plan laid out in this book. Being that i’m new to all of this, i’m not trying to beat the clock or log a specific amount of miles - just working toward being able to run 30 minutes straight comfortably. This also helps Zoë train because my hope is that come 2 Dec 2007, she’ll be able to run the Las Vegas Marathon with me!
On another note, i’m a bit confused. The following is Calories Eaten (left) vs. Calories Burned (right) for the past two weeks:

Yet, my weight is at 205. Hormones? Bloating? Mystery weight? What the heck?
Over the past month my Calories Eaten (left) vs. Calories Burned (right) chart has looked like this:

Yet i’m only 2 lbs lighter as of this morning. That can’t be right, can it? i guess if i’m only in a 100 calorie deficit a day, then maybe it is right.
And my weight change over the past month (Weight Change over Time):

Man, this dieting thing sucks. A lady who came into my restaurant told me “To lose weight, you have to bust your ass exercising and starve. That’s it honey… at the end of the day, you’ll always be hungry.”
Methinks i need to rethink my plan…
