Yes, my dears, I was featured in an article in the NY Post in an article called “Baby Got Back - ‘Fat’ Abuse is a Weighty Issue for Full-Figured Women“.
Though Marina Vataj (the writer) didn’t use my quotes of how supportive my Husband was through the weight gain or how he helped me come to terms with it since it was gained mostly from my bipolar meds which aren’t going away. (I specifically remember him holding my hands and saying “If you never lose an ounce but you’re stable, I’ll be perfectly okay with it. I love you, ALL of you.”) But these quotes obviously weren’t appropriate for her article.
But how exciting is that? If I had some graphic design know-how, I’d post a little banner in the sidebar with “As Featured in the New York Post” - yes, I am that cheesy!

And yes, it seems like a paradox.
You see, about a three or four months ago, I finally started taking myself seriously as a writer, dedicating long hours each day to researching and honing my craft, querying publications to write for them and generally doing what writers do - writing.
But because I work from home, it’s not always seen as work by others. My Husband was one of those people from whom the phrases “She doesn’t work” or “But you’re at home all day” would slip - and whose throat I would threaten with slicing or choking.
“I DON’T WORK?!” I would loudly reply. (more…)
It’s crap. While Staples has always been remarkably helpful and worked with me on everything I’ve ever had a problem or question with (not much considering how much I’ve purchased from them!), but the company that they sent me to in order to replace my printer are horrible. TWO all-in-one replacements later and two months later, I’m still without an operating printer.
A writer. Without a printer/copier/fax/scanner. In other words, it’s hindering my potential income and making my daily working life a pain in the butt.
I. AM. SO. PISSED.
Other annoyance? This company is on the east coast, ONLY open 9 am - 6 pm EST (in other words, doesn’t take a voice mail just hangs up on you after hours) which is 6 am - 3 pm my time, PST. So I rearrange my day to make sure I get a hold of them during their hours, I STILL wait on hold for 10-15 minutes before speaking to a live individual who never seems happy to talk to me (which annoys me further, because even pissed off, I’m extremely polite).
I HATE IT WHEN THINGS DON’T WORK AS THEY SHOULD AND COMPANIES ARE HARD TO GET A HOLD OF. ARG!
If I had the cash to go buy a new all-in-one, I would. Until then, I’m stuck dealing with these idiots.
I am happy to announce that my first review for FanBolt.com is now up (you can read it HERE) with many more to follow!
Being the movie fanatic we Mercurials are, I’m thrilled to be working with someone who shares my ardent enthusiasm of pop culture. Thanks Emma, the founder and editor at FanBolt, for this fun opportunity and the great exposure!
I’ve been having the weirdest bouts of insomnia. Even after I down my meds (a hefty sedative mix of Lexapro and Seroquel - both warning “Make cause excessive drowsiness”) - I find myself antsy and thinking and typing.
Part of it is my new career. Freelance writing is a fun but difficult job, especially when starting out. There’s so much marketing, book-keeping and administrative tasks involved in the upstart that I feel like I’m barely writing. But hey, I have the benefit of being my own boss - and putting myself on vacation like I did yesterday.
Two blessed weeks of vacation.
I’m a good boss.
Yet it’s the minute that I tell my brain to stop thinking about writing that I go into overdrive (more…)
